When was COSTCO created?

James Sinegal and Jeffrey H. Brotman opened the first Costco warehouse in 1983 in Seattle. By December of the same year, the company had opened a second location in Portland and a third one in Spokane.

In 1993 Costco and Price Club decided to merge their operations. The merger went smoothly thanks to the similarity between the business model and size of both companies. This combined company was first named PriceCostco but in 1997 it changed to Costco Wholesale Corporation, and all their Price Club stores were rebranded as Costco.

Costco reached the Australian market in 2009, opening their first store in Melbourne.

In 2018 Costco announced it would be expanding to Western Australia with a store located near Perth Airport.
